Wildfires
Wildland Fire Prevention is Everyone’s ResponsibilityEvery year, thousands of acres of wildland along with many homes are destroyed by fire. These fires can erupt any time of the year, but are most likely to occur during our dry winter months from December through May.
As Florida is the lightning capital of the world, many of our wildland fires are caused by this natural phenomenon. Other causes include arson and escaped debris burning.
Adding to the fire hazard is the growing number of people living in new communities built in areas that were once wildland. This growth places even greater pressure on local and state firefighting resources.
As a result of these factors, fire prevention becomes everyone’s responsibility.
