The Importance of Fire Plans Review
Reviewing plans for new and existing building projects is a main responsibility of the North Collier Fire Prevention Bureau. Whether the project is an expansion or renovation to an existing building, a new building, a shopping center or a residential subdivision, the Fire Prevention Bureau is involved in the planning process.
The plan review process includes review of the land, the structures, roadway accesses and water resources for the development. The Fire Prevention Bureau evaluates roadway plans to ensure if access and turning areas meet requirements for large firefighter vehicles. They also ensure that the plans provide for enough water to supply hydrants and sprinkler systems within the development.
For industrial and commercial structures, fire code standards are based on a number of factors including the building’s size, intended use, and occupancy numbers. These factors help determine the design of exits and alarm and sprinkler requirements. These efforts all help to make buildings as fire-safe as possible.
North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District conducts fire plans reviews for all structures within the District’s boundaries. The District’s well-trained Plans Reviewers work out of Collier County Growth Management offices, allowing for hassle-free transition of plans to and from the County and the District.

The Importance of Building Inspections
North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District is a leader in public safety for its residents and visitors and is responsible for coordinating and conducting fire and life safety inspections throughout the District.
Inspections are required for all structures under construction, new or existing, which require a Collier County permit. The North Collier Fire Prevention Bureau conducts inspections for all structures within its District’s boundaries.
Fire prevention efforts continue for the life of a building. Annual, bi-annual and tri-annual inspections are required for all occupancies where the public gather and/or where they lodge with high-hazard occupancies requiring annual inspections.
These inspections help to ensure that safety requirements remain in force in the structure. Cluttered exit passages, overloaded electrical circuits, dangerous heating units and flammable material issues are but a few of the concerns that the Fire Prevention Bureau addresses during its inspections.
