(NBC-2/Megan Myers) When the winds are strong and the drought index is high, fire crews are on high alert for brush fires.

North Collier Fire officials have a plan in place if flames break out. When crews get a call, they gear up and head out to the scene.

Once they arrive, crews will determine if they need to call for backup.

North Collier Fire said they work side by side with the Division of Forestry to get brush fires under control.

Most of the time, it’s a team effort with crews from around the county to get things under control.
