For the past few weeks, North Collier Fire Rescue Local 2297 has been busy coordinating its annual toy drive benefiting under-privileged families living in our District. We are so very lucky to have such generous residents and businesses that donate hundreds and hundreds of toys and gift cards to our cause.
Each year, the donations pour into our Board Room here at Station 45 where conference tables overflow with toy trucks, stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, books, basketballs and even bicycles. There are also gift cards for the parents – Publix, Walmart and Target to name a few. The gifts are sorted by age groups – babies to teenagers – by our Administrative staff. And, then our Green Army of CERT volunteers spend hours wrapping each and every gift with firefighters stopping in to assist between emergency calls.
More than 30 families benefited from this year’s donation drive.
Any remaining gifts not allocated to a family are donated to various local organizations including The Guadalupe Center in Immokalee and the Shelter for Abused Women and Children in Naples. The ‘plush’ toys that you see in the photos were given to the Shelter for use by children who may need a little something soft and comforting to hold onto during confusing times.
North Collier Fire Rescue and Local 2297 thanks all who help us make our annual holiday toy drive so successful, including the communities of Cypress Woods, Wyndemere, Quail Creek, Vineyards, Carlton Lakes and the Quarry. We are forever grateful!
