Assistant Chief Tony Camps oversees the District’s Special Operations Division, which includes Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response, Dive Rescue, Beach and Marine Emergency Response, and the Lifeguard Program.
Chief Camps began his career in emergency services in 1996 as an EMT/Paramedic with American Medical Response in Miami, Florida. In December 1999, he relocated to Naples to continue his career with Collier County Emergency Medical Services, where he earned Paramedic certification. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001 and simultaneously obtained firefighter certification through the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
Chief Camps later joined the Advanced Life Support (ALS) Engine Program and participated in exchange programs with multiple fire agencies. In 2003, he became a member of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT), where he developed a strong professional focus on emergency medicine in austere and unconventional environments. In 2008, he qualified for and entered the SWAT Medic Program.
In 2010, Chief Camps was promoted to Battalion Chief, overseeing daily emergency service operations, countywide special operations teams, and serving as a Flight Medic with MedFlight. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2013, where his responsibilities included special operations, logistics, critical incident stress management, infection prevention, and emergency management for the county’s emergency medical services department.
After completing 25 years of service with Collier County EMS, Chief Camps joined North Collier Fire Rescue as Assistant Chief of Special Operations.
Assistant Chief Camps remains actively engaged in operational leadership and is committed to continuous improvement in emergency response and community service. He maintains numerous professional certifications, is a graduate of the Certified Public Manager Program at Florida State University, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Services Administration and a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management.
