James A. Calamari

Originally from Long Island, New York, Mr. Calamari has been a resident of North Collier for more than 20 years.

Mr. Calamari has served in public service since 1984 and in emergency services since 1989. His career began with the New York City Fire Department prior to his relocation to Florida. After moving to Florida, he continued his commitment to the fire service as a volunteer with the former Golden Gate Fire Department, where he also served for two years as President of the Firefighters’ Association.

Since 2001, Commissioner Calamari has served as Deputy Commander of a national disaster medical team, responding to numerous large-scale emergencies across the country. His deployments have included Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana (2005), Hurricane Ike in Texas (2008), Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico (2017), and Hurricane Lane in Hawaii (2018).

During the severe hurricane season of 2004, Commissioner Calamari led Disaster Recovery Centers throughout Southwest Florida and received commendations in recognition of his dedication and service.

Commissioner Calamari earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from Hodges University in Naples. He was also inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society.
